Our new dishwasher has arrived and is being installed as I write this.  Our old one was losing its motor bearings and was diagnosed at a $470 repair about a month ago.  We wanted to wait until the Labor Day sales occur before purchasing a new machine because we figured anywhere between 10-20% off for labor day.  We have been running the current one right up to last night to get every dish washing minute out of the machine. Some minor electrical work had to be done because direct connections are not allowed (thanks again to our kitchen remodel contractor :<) and a junction box needed to be put in.  This is the second appliance that we have had a little spat with this year.  Earlier it was the new clothes washer would stop in mid-cycle and was at first diagnosed as computer problem, “A Computer Problem???” Apparently there is a micro-controller in  this baby and to was listed at $420 with a labor of $170.  Shit that’s $600.  The machine was just one month out of warranty.  I called GE and wrangled a fix on there dime.  One month later, and several wash loads at the corner laundromat, the part is delivered and a service call is scheduled.  The service technician arrives and inquires as to what the original problem was (stopping mid-cycle) and determines in about 5 seconds that the drain filter is clogged and because it can’t drain the machine stops mid-cycle.  There were hair clips, jewelry, coins, earrings, and anything else your kids leave in there pockets.  Cleaned out the drain and everything works just fine.  The next one we’re going to have to tackle is the stove.  Sometimes it just won’t re-ignite during a cooking cycle.  You can here it trying to light but it won’t catch flame.  So it is touch and go when your going to cook something for an hour or so.  Eventually it will piss me off enough to call in a tech and see what the problem is.  Well, the dishwasher is in, looks to be the right model that we ordered, we will have to give it a try tomorrow as we will have enough dirty dishes to justify a cleaning.
